Not everything starts on a brief. Made at the Sydney College of the Arts, these objects explore ideas through material form, where a lot of the thinking was done with the hands. Unlike most of what's on this site, you can physically pick these up.
Faces
A different version of you exists in the minds of everyone who knows you. Sometimes one, sometimes another, sometimes several at once. I made these vessels to reflect this idea of being simultaneously complete yet partial. They're whole because of their division, not in spite of it.
Early into my glassblowing sessions, I observed molten glass under the constant pull of gravity, behaving a lot like the flowing movements of water. In making that comparison, i decided to freeze the ephemeral nature of water formations in the form of these sculptures. When light passes through, the glass throws caustic patterns onto surrounding surfaces, the same shimmering effect you see sunlight making at the bottom of a swimming pool.
