Paste-up series
Ever since moving to Sydney, I'd been bombarded with news of the housing and rental crisis to the point of information fatigue. It was something I'd just come to accept as an 18-year-old coming into adulthood. That sense of helplessness devolving into complacency is the feeling in which this project was rooted, a series of illegal paste-ups designed to live right at the doorsteps of the problem.
The visual language I wanted to use came from Xerox, a flat, grainy, photocopied look. It made sense to borrow from the 70s anti-establishment punk culture, specifically the mass-produced posters and flyers with a gritty, raw feel about them.
The dog house, coffin, and shoebox felt recognisable enough as proxies for what homes have become.
Bill posting is illegal in Sydney under the Graffiti Control Act 2008. So for now, it lives here.
